Historic Goodwill Softball Tour to Mexico

Brownsville, Texas – Top softball official from the United States and Brownsville city officials announced in March a historic tour to promote a softball exchange with Mexico.

The exchange is a joint venture of Senior Softball-USA (SSUSA), the Independent Softball Association (ISA) and the City of Brownsville to promote an exchange of teams in tournaments on both sides of the borders.
The US teams, which will be composed of Senior Softball-USA players, will play Mexican teams in four Mexican cities: Victoria, San Luis Potosi, Tampico and Matamoros from Aug. 4th-11th.

Mariano “Bean” Ayala, president and CEO of the Brownsville Convention and Visitors Bureau, is spearheading the move to bring the US teams on a tour of four Mexican cities to promote senior softball in that country. “This is an historic event” said Ayala. “It marks the opening of the door so that teams from both countries will have the chance to play softball against each other”.

The US players will meet in Brownsville and travel together in motorcoaches to the four Mexican cities where they will not only play softball, but celebrate softball in festivals and other events sponsored by the cities.

Hennessy said the tour would be open to individual Senior Softball-USA players and their families, but would likely be limited to two or three teams. “We will put the teams together with Senior Softball-USA players from throughout the United States and Canada” said Hennessy.
